Found an Emglo Compressor - what should I offer?

I came across a tire shop going out of business - the guy is sort of my neighbor and I know him to talk to him. His dad owns the business, but his son is handling getting everything out of there. (I had stopped in to get a tire mounted and discovered this)

The compressor is an Emglo - pretty sure it is a W5C-80C - 5 hp 2 stage 16.7cfm @100psi. I'm pretty sure it is single phase which is what I need. These are 4 cylinder pumps which I haven't come across before. I'm not sure of the vintage, but it was there to primarily run impact wrenches I think.

What is a fair price for this unit? New it is around $1700 or so. I'm not sure how old it is, nor if this guy bought it second hand - not looking to rip him off, but I don't want to pay much either. Is an offer of $300 too cheap?

Re: Found an Emglo Compressor - what should I offer?

BTT - This guy FINALLY contacted me. I had posted this pic elsewhere and had some good input and things to ask. Those include:

See/hear it run and fill the empty tank.
Open the end plug and inspect the inside of the tank for rust.
Ask about the new teflon tape on the pipe going into the tank.
Ask how long ago it ran (note rust on pump pulley)
Should have a plate on it with the date of manufacture.

The general consensus seems to be that it is a good unit and should purr. Parts to rebuild it ARE available if need be.

I would clean it up and give it a good smurfing for sure...

It looks single phase to be - the capacitors on the motor. Nice compressor!

And it's almost the right shade of smurf!

    Scott.
If it wasn't for the last minute I wouldn't get anything done
