    It's been a while...

Wow, it's been quite a while since I dropped by this forum. Looks like it's still here! Good job keeping it alive Cebby! I see Mxtras is still around. How is business Scott? Is the bike clamp selling...
  2. Re: Anyone use one of those Mr. Clean Autodry things?

We have one. Works like they say, no spots. Good for a quick bath, but no replacment for a hands on full detail. Perfect for me because I'm not a clean car fanatic. Do a quick wash rinse it off an be...

    Re: Inexpensive Horizontal Band Saws

I have a HF bandsaw. I couldn't be happier with it. I made a better stand, but haven't replaced the blade yet. My blade is still cutting after over a year. It's missing some teeth, but still...

    Re: Drill Presses

Best advice I can give you is to check auctions and flea markets. What you want is an old drill press. They were big hunks of cast iron then. Much beefier and sturdier than they are now.

    Re: tool brand

With tools, I think sometimes brands matter, sometimes they don't. I like my Blue Point (Snap-On makes them) combo wrenches. They are thin, but much longer than Craftsman. I can feel the difference,...

Nice. I've been listening to Sirius Radio in the garage lately. We have one in each car and one inthe house. The have build in FM modulators, so I can turn on the one in the house and pick it up on...

Re: Chop Saw Tube Nothcing 101 (with pics)

I recently saw a thread on this subject over at the Hobart forums. Changed my damn life! I had all this tube laying around I wasn't using because I couldn't notch it. On top of all this info, I have...

    Re: Safety forum

You think that needs it's own forum? Seems to me, there wouldn't be too many threads in a section dedicated to the latest advances in ear plugs. I would think safety related stuff would fit nicely in...

    Re: Equipment Auction (Sheetmetal)

Like Cebby says, it's a crap shoot. Be prepared to walk away. Lots of stuff gets bid up by people who have no idea what things should cost. It's funny, the big stuff often goes dirt cheap because few...

Hey Ceb, think you can get me an address so I can mapquest it? I'm thinking of taking the day off work and heading down.

    Re: Painting metal clear

Harley does it on a few bikes. Then grind some texture into the metal, and cear it. For instance, they may paint a tank back, with bare metal flames, then clear it. Looks good. I assume what they use...

Re: I bought a lathe! (Attn MXtras)

My base is pretty solid, but not as solid as what it would be in a machine shop. If I was chasing around a few thousandths, I'd get concerned about my base. But the amount of runout I'm seeing would...

Re: I bought a lathe! (Attn MXtras)

Well, the stock could be part of the problem, I expect is was slightly out of round, but a piece of round stock wouldn't be as far out as this. I'm talking 1/32 runout.

    I'll try that after I...

Re: I bought a lathe! (Attn MXtras)

My first question. Before I started tearing this thing down I chucked up a piece of round stock and spun it by hand. Seems like the jaws of the chuck aren't clamping square. Is there a fix for this,...

Re: I bought a lathe! (Attn MXtras)

Thanks for all the tips guys. Wyoming, do you have a picture of the type of drop box you're referring to? I'm not picturing them, not sure if I've ever seen them. My mother in law is a postmaster at...

Re: I bought a lathe! (Attn MXtras)

Thanks for the tips Wyoming. I wasn't originally going to strip it and rebuild it clean, but I've changed my mind. It would appear that bench I had planned on sitting this thing on is too small....

I bought a lathe! (Attn MXtras)

Well after a year of careful searching, and not finding what I want, I had almost given up on finding a metal lathe. Then one day, I'm sitting in my office and a customer of mine comes in. We talked...
  20. Re: WOW - it's been quiet in here.......

My dad was a mason at a steel mill, he later switched to the carpentry department. But for most of my young life, he was a bricklayer. When I was 5 or 6, a friend of the family bought me a mini bike...

Re: Who here competes in something?

I don't really call what I do "compete". I run a lot of open track days, and practices. My work schedule doesn't really permit me to be too competitive, but I'm on the track as often as I can.

    Poll: Re: Expletive Filter

Yeah, I say ditch it. Not that I can't handle the astericks. But, this isn't a knitting forum, we're gear heads. I don't know about the rest of you, but in my shop I use the "f word" as punctuation....
