View Full Version : Jeff's Tremor build thread

Those of you that have clicked on the link in my sig, www.tremormuv.com know that I'm chopping my wife's Suburban up to build an H-1 Replica.
Since this board reeks of coolness, I figured I'd let you guys watch.

Here's the Deal, the Tremor plans give you all the information to build an H-1 replica body out of flat steel. the only H-1 parts you need are a hood and doors. This body is designed to mount on a 73/91 Suburban, or any 4x4 with 130" wheelbase.
I'm using a 1990 Suburban Chassis, and a Ford 7.3 IDI diesel, with a ZF-5 speed tranny.
Here's the Chassis Donor.
Here's the drivetrain donor, which I'm still driving. The goofy looking guy next to it is me.
And here's the progress Thus far. My wife is just thrilled with the new yard decoration!!
So, sit back ant over the next year or two, this'll be good for a bunch of laughs!!!

More Carnage!!!

This is the fun part.... ;)

That looks like a Sawzall Lover's Dream project! How many of your buddy's wanted to help you cut the top off that Suburban? I'm sure you had plenty of volunteers!

I looked over all of the stuff about this project when you first signed up here - looks like quite the task and a pretty cool project.

Just don't let that goofy looking fcker standing next to that yellow truck help you with anything critical - he looks like a real idiot. Oh - that's you? He,he - I was just kidding, you know....just kidding...

Keep us up to date, would ya?

Oh, I'll be keeping Y'all up to date. And I did that roof all by my lonesome.

Okay, here's the final teardown pic!!
From here on out, it'll be Chassis prep, and build. I won't be working on it this weekend, however, as I'm going on a road trip to pick up parts for the build. I will post pics of the parts I score, however.http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b100/Camarogenius/HPIM0144.jpg

6:27AM? What - did you sleep in this morning?

Man - that takes ambition. That's the right way to do something like this - tear it to crap and go from the ground up!

That's an odd place for the glove box. I would re-think that if I were you.

Keep 'em coming! Neat project!

What has to be done to the frame? Do you just fluff it up or do you have to shorten it, or?

03-28-2006, 02:52 PM
Just got to bob the ends back to the spring hangers. They will still be outside the Tremor body, but they'll be short enough to cover with some really cool winch-mount bumpers and brush guards.

What are you going to do with the engine? Just a rebuild or are you going to put something else in it?

03-28-2006, 03:25 PM
I'm going to use the 7.3 diesel out of the ford.

have you seen this thread before. A member of another website I visit frequently is almost complete with his Hummer.

Yup. That's francois. GT99 on the tremor forum. He's an engineer by trade, and a hell of a fabricator. His build is top shelf.

I was amazed reading through his build up. Its unreal to see a Hummer being built from scratch in someones garage. Good luck with your build, hope to see a a lot of photos from you too.
