Anyone here play with molding plastics?

I have a couple of projects that I want to work on so I started looking into molding plastics at home and it looks pretty simple. I was curious if anyone here has done it.

I mold urethanes. I started at home, then went commercial and now I am back at my home shop.

It's quite simple. There's a bit of a learning curve and each compound will have it's own set of dos and don'ts.

I say go for it and you'll figure it out - your a sharp guy!

Seems like the hardest part would be the mold. What is the best way to make a mold for a part you can't copy, an original part?

You can make a buck from another material and mold it off of that. I am actually looking at duplicating an existing piece.

In my case, I CNC machined the mold from aluminum - it was from a digital design (ACAD) so the math data was already available.
