Re: WRITEUP: Cebby's JD2 Model 3 Hydro Bender Conversion

Thanks Cebby, I'll be waiting for the pics and measurements. I'm finishing up the stand, but haven't drilled any holes in the channel yet. Won't do that until I have all the parts.

When I get the stand completed I'll post some pics. ....... Bill

OK Diverbill - here it is:

Note, my top plate and channel are different lengths - but are flush at the bender arm end. I also included dims of the notch on my top plate to clean the arm bolt when retracted.

Click image for the huge version...

Do you need the elevation view also (side view)? Let me know.

Re: WRITEUP: Cebby's JD2 Model 3 Hydro Bender Conversion

Thanks Cebby, you're a life saver. This is really going to help. Sorry it took so long to reply, but I've been working a shutdown for the past 3 days and didn't have the time to respond to your reply.

The channel that I'm using is 8". It was left over from another job and I thought I'd use it up. With the cost of steel, being what it is, I've been saving scraps that I would normally toss. In fact, the whole stand is built out of scrap that was just laying around. Now was as good a time as any to clean up the shop and make some room.

Don't go to any trouble on the side view. What you've already got is all I was needing.

I've got to go out of town, on a job, for awhile, but as soon as I get back and finish the stand I'll post some pics.

Again thanks, your help is greatly appreciated. BTW if I can return the favor, just drop me a line. ............... Bill

Any time, Bill - I think I have good pics of the side, so adding the vertical dims won't be a biggie. Might take me a few to get around to it, that's all.

As far as a favor - just spread the word about our site. The more, the merrier!! (and the deeper the knowledgebase )

Found something my writeup did not contain.

What is suppposed to go into the Haldex pump for fluid: Regular ol' ATF Dextron III. I never knew how much should be in there, so I added 2 quarts to the overflow. The overflow is like 2/3's full now.

Mike - for the record, your JD2 on the smurf-blue frame seems to be bending my 1.75" .120 wall DOM completely effortlessly! We did have problems with it twisting the tube at first, until we used a 1.5" piece of plastic conduit as a spacer to hold up the guide, like you pointed out would need done.

It seems to work perfectly, only problem is user error at this point! Hopefully we'll catch onto the learning curve soon and not waste much of my tube

If you're ever over this way while I'm using it, give me a call if you'd like to see it in action or give some pointers! I'll get you posts / video of it bending the DOM shortly.

For those that don't know, I've lent ol' twisty out to OverkillZJ to assist in making his buggy come to life. Let's just say hoisting it into a pickup with 4 guys was a chore... Anywho.....

Matt - Glad it is working out! I'm thrilled the ol' girl is getting some use...

How much springback are you getting on your DOM? I might be out near you next week to come check things out.

Is springback the tube returning a few degrees after the bend? Actually none that I've noticed, but keep in mind I'm a complete newbie to this. All I know is to keep my fingers out of the die; putting my finger in my weld puddle last night was bad enough.

    That's gonna leave a mark...

Yes on the springback. It should be pretty minor with DOM of that size and that tight of a radius.
