    Removing Powder Coating from threads

What's the method of preference? I have a number of bolts that have PC in the threads - I wire wheeled a couple of them, but that was a PITA.

So I thought to myself, self - why don't you run the bolts through a die? I thought this was a great idea - so I went and bought the right thread pitch dies. I haven't started yet, but thought I'd ask if anyone has had to go down this road before. Seems like it would be the easiest way, but I thought I'd ask.

I vote for the die. A split die, at that. The one piece cheapies tend to cut an undersize thread.

All I could get locally was the cheapies from Craftsman. Should I put a relief cut in it with my dremel?

Uhhmm....... I donno. Run it on a junker bolt and see if it removes metal. If so, I would be inclined to slice it!

Turns out the set I bought only has two of the sizes I need. should have measured the threads first.

Gonna scour MSC for some that are the right spec.

My vote is toward the die also. But Scott is right, use a good one.

Crap, I got 6 for $18 Craftsman brand. MSC ones are $15 and up each. WoW!! At least they are the split ones.

Attached you will find the only real option I see for doing this task.

....and of course, you'll need an operator, so I have attached an example.
