Cheap "temporary" repair for a flat roof?

I have a flat roof over my makeshift kitchen (a little background - the current kitchen in my house was built on a porch slab by the PO with a flat roof - about 10 x 10 - poor construction, etc) Our plan is to move the kitchen to another room eventually, but until then i need to make the room pretty leak free. It has gotten progressively worse despite a could of tar applications by me.

I want to spend as little as possible obviously, since this entire portion of the house will be removed at some point.

The big problem is that it is the middle of winter here. Snow gets on the roof, melts and drips into the kitchen now.

My initial thought was get some of the thick (6 mil?) vapor barrier and put it up there, maybe 2 or 3 layers thick and cover with a light layer of gravel? (since tar won't be workable at these temps - 7 here right now.

    Any ideas on the cheap?

Get some rolled roofing and just throw a quick roof on it. I am not sure what it costs, but should not take much to do a 10X10.

Sounds like you aren't sure when your kitchen will move. I think I'd try to get something on the roof with some pitch. Around my house eventually is usually a long time from now!

Well, I just don't have the time to mess with this now, so I had it done by the guys who did the roof on the main part of my house. $780 and it's leak free.
